When you outgrow your gym leggings


Maybe you'll think I've gone mad

This post has relevance I promise!


The idea came to me to write this post when I went on a morning run. I am currently in training for a marathon which is happening in March next year. I am keeping my running levels up and ticking over on the miles each week.


This particular run

On this one morning run, I was pushing myself to vary my pace and to drive my legs when I got to each hill.

Where I live is hilly and so, you have to learn to love them.

I was in fact, wearing the gym leggings shown in the picture! They are Gym Shark; they have pockets and I love them. However, on this occasion, I felt like my legs were being crushed in them!!! It was like a snake wrapping around its prey and constricting its ability to breathe.


At first, I was annoyed!

In my head I was thinking, why do they need to squish my legs when they are already working hard enough on this run.

Then I was thinking about how annoyed I was that they clearly no longer fit me and I would have to get rid.

Then it hit me!

They no longer fit me!

You might be thinking, why does that matter but, it's been nearly a year since I started back at the gym and I invested in a personal trainer. The leggings squishing me, was a sign that I had built more muscle and definition in my legs and I had nearly missed it.

We always expect results to be this big, beautiful moment but in reality, they can show up in lots of different ways.

I could have overlooked this moment and just been annoyed about having to buy new gym wear (something I actually love) instead of celebrating this milestone.


Celebrate every win

We all want to see results and we fixate on it, and yet we totally overlook them when they actually happen. Right in this moment I was doing exactly that, I was forgetting to acknowledge and enjoy this milestone.

Celebrate like your life depends on it

Ask yourself these questions:

  1. Are you celebrating your results when they happen?

  2. Have you or are you overlooking results right now? If yes, how can you acknowledge and celebrate them today?

  3. What milestones can you add to your goal in order to celebrate more often?
