It's Always Someone Else's Fault!

We Dodge Responsibility To Avoid The Blame

I'm always inspired to write a post based on something I heard on a podcast and this one is no exception.

I was listening to the amazing Emily Swaffield on her podcast show Elevate with Em.

This week's episode was called The Power of One More and every second I was hooked.

My Takeaway for the Episode

Most of us go through life avoiding taking ownership of our lives and I believe this is why.

If we avoid ownership, then we can avoid blame!

I spent the first 20 odd years of my life blaming everything around me for why I didn't have what I wanted.

I didn't have money, because only rich people get rich. I don't have a boyfriend because all men are horrible.

It was never my fault and that's why I was miserable.

I See It All The Time

The most common thing I see, is around people's health!

I see them complaining about their weight, their skin, their ailments and everything else.

It's always the result of something else going on, or at least that's what most will say.

It's not a bad choice in diet, lack of exercise or strains on their body. It's something external to them which is causing all of these things.

Now, I'm not having a go here but this is the thing.

By blaming external factors for things going on in life, what happens is we remove any responsibility on us to fix them.

And that's the key bit, by passing blame, you remove any responsibility on yourself to fix it.

Harsh but true!

I have been one of these people which is why I say it. I have blamed everything around me and therefore it wasn't up to me to take any action.

But here's something to remember:

"We only complain about the things, we know we can change"

So, I ask you, what are you blaming for problems in your life? What could you take responsibility for and therefore see real change start to happen.
