I Saw It and I Went For It, Simple!

Ok, it wasn't that simple.....

A couple weeks ago, I attended an interview for a job that I had been waiting to come up.

This job would mean:

  • More money

  • A new team

  • A new challenge

  • A real push out my comfort zone

On Monday morning I had the interview and by Monday afternoon I was offered the role.

This Is What Happened....

When I say it wasn't all plain sailing, I meant it. The job I have accepted was something I began exploring earlier this year. I wanted to progress out of my current role as an Administrator and to begin the next stage of my career.

So I reached out to the team in question and enquired about any possible up and coming positions.

They didn't have any, in fact, they'd just filled one a month ago. However, in the next few months, they were looking to advertise for another role, one I could apply for.

So, I got myself ready, I updated my CV, created a covering letter and kept in contact with the team.

The Challenge I Faced

I am lucky enough to work in an amazing team and so leaving them was going to be tough. Even tougher, was telling them I'd be leaving but just as I was about to do so.......they announced a role was coming up that they wanted me to go for.

That's right! My current team had finally got approval to hire two new team members at a higher position and they wanted me to apply.

Now, you might read that and think, "where's the issue?"

But..........

In my head I instantly felt guilty! I felt I was being rude and selfish looking for another job and I felt that I was leaving at the wrong time.

What Followed...

There were tears, actual tears, stress, anger, irritation and annoyance.

Why did both jobs have to be coming up at once, an force me to choose.

I spoke to my coach at the time to ask for guidance, I journaled on it and I threw a few tantrums.

I have always had a fear around letting people down or upsetting people, and this situation felt like I was about to do both. But what actually happened was what was suppose to happen. When I say the Universe has your back, even when you can’t see it, I mean it!

The Outcome

The original job I wanted was so delayed in approval that I took the job with my current team. It felt good and it felt like the right thing to do.

I moved under my new manager and I liked where things would be heading. THEN, our new ‘big boss’ changed things up and the whole team dynamic had to change.

I got to work closely with another woman on my team (which I loved) but we also had to do work which wasn’t really what we signed on for (which we didn’t love).

At the end of that month, the job I previously wanted came out and I thought, f*ck it!

My fears around why I wanted to originally leave my current role hadn’t changed, and so this was my opportunity.

In September I will be starting my new, new role with a whole new team, and a whole new challenge. Better yet, I ended up with a better offer for an annual earning due to being in a similar paid role at present. So my initial fear of taking the job with my current role, actually became a benefit in the end.

What I want you to take away from this!

That even when things all look like they are going to shit, somewhere in there, everything I coming together.

That doesn’t mean you have to be happy during the tough days, but find a little trust in what could be coming.

If that doesn’t help, use these journal prompts:

  1. What has been one of the toughest moments you have been through?

  2. What did you learn from it?

  3. Did you do something different the next time?

  4. Are you going through a tough time right now?

  5. What could the Universe be trying to tell you?
