I recently did an Instagram live around what it means when you hear 'Investing in Yourself' and what that can look like.

Firstly, it's not something we are taught about or the benefits of doing so. Investing in yourself should be a standard practice and yet we only hear about it by chance.

The first time I heard the term was when network marketing came into my life and all the wonderful people on the training call were sharing their experiences.

But even then I didn't know what it truly meant or the power of taking that step to invest into myself.

So what is investing in yourself?

In simple terms, it is taking dedicated action to allow yourself to become the best version of you possible. At least that's my definition of it!

There are so many ways in which to do this, but I think the key things to know before doing so are:

  • What are your goals / where are you wanting your life to go? Knowing this will allow you to pick the right kind of investment.

  • It doesn't always have to come at a huge cost to your financial budget. There are plenty of free ways to start investing in yourself today (sharing more with you further down)

  • What areas of your life / things about yourself would you like to improve? Is it your confidence, your fitness, mental health, business aspirations? Knowing this is key!

So now that you have an idea of what you want to invest in, let me share some of the common fears that come up when people get to this step.

  1. MONEY! This is such an uncomfortable topic for most people. Maybe you hate talking about it, maybe it feels like it causes you a great deal of stress. If you're in the UK right now, then you may even be feeling the strain around the raise in all of our bills. Investing in yourself does NOT have to cost the Earth, my advice is to start small and work your way up to the bigger payments, if the right one comes along.

  2. GUILT! Again, we are not encouraged to invest in ourselves and therefore you might see it as a selfish act to do so. I know Mums in particular find it easy to spend money on their kids but when it comes to themselves, they cant 'justify it'. I'm not putting Mums down for this, but the best thing you can do for your kids, is to show up as the best version of you for them, and that goes for everyone in our lives.

  3. TRUST! Or at least a lack of it. I know in the past that I have lost trust in myself when I have invested in coaches, not taken the action as required, ultimately not seeing the results I want to see and therefore fearing investing again. I let myself down and in turn, lost trust in my ability to achieve my goal. Maybe you've experienced something similar, and you need to dig deep into WHY you didn't take the relevant action before.

Investment Freebies
  1. BOOKS - Personal development books / self-help books can be found in a library and speaking for the UK, library's are free. Meaning you can actually borrow books that will help you grow in your chosen area without it costing you a penny. maybe you have a friend whose reading a personal development book? Why not ask them to borrow it sometime?

  2. PODCASTS - You can literally find a podcast show on ANY topic nowadays. The online world has opened us up to learn from people living the life we dream about without it costing us a penny. If you're not into podcasts yet, do yourself a favour and go listen to one. You'll find shows on relationships, money, mindset, spirituality, running, being a parent and so much more.

  3. FREE WORKSHOPS - The online space is filled with coaches who are supporting people all over the world and like podcast shows, you can find a coach to support you with anything! If you look hard enough, a lot of coaches offer free workshops, giveaways, free in person events in which you can attend. It's a great way to see if the coach is a good fit for what you are after as well as a great way to dip your toe into the world of personal development.

Now it might sound cringey, but personal development HAS changed my life for the better. Not only am I happier, but I am more self aware, I have more trust and confidence in myself and my abilities. I went from being a miserable, negative b*tch to a happy, open minded person within the space of a couple years. My relationships got healthier, my fitness improved, my finances improved and I just feel like I am truly moving towards the best version of me that I can be.

Thank you so much for getting this far, I am going to leave you with one final question to sit and ponder about and hopefully, eventually take action from.

What do you need to start investing in for yourself and why?
